World Cup · Day 28

The round of sixteen is complete. Four quarter finals are set.

Switzerland beat Colombia on penalties to close out the last-sixteen round.

Switzerland beat Colombia on penalties, four three, after a scoreless draw, the final match of the round of sixteen and the result that completes the quarter final draw. All four ties are now set: France face Morocco, Spain face Belgium, Norway face England, and Argentina face Switzerland, matches spread across 9 to 11 July. It closes out a knockout round that has already produced Ronaldo's career-closing exit, Neymar's international retirement, and Cape Verde's near-miss against the holders. The World Cup now moves into its final stretch, eight nations left, four matches standing between any of them and a place in the last four.
