Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic have both withdrawn from the 2026 National Bank Open in Montreal, and Carlos Alcaraz was never entered, leaving Alexander Zverev as the highest-ranked man in the draw.
The 2026 National Bank Open runs from 1 to 13 August, with the men in Montreal at IGA Stadium and the women in Toronto at Sobeys Stadium. Draws are made on Friday 31 July and main-draw play begins on Sunday 2 August.
The men's event has lost its two biggest names. Tennis Canada confirmed on 24 July that Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic have both withdrawn, both citing workload and a decision to protect their health ahead of the US Open. Sinner had defended his Wimbledon title on 12 July, three weeks before Montreal starts. Carlos Alcaraz was not on the entry list at all.
That leaves Alexander Zverev as the highest-ranked man in the field. He won this title in Montreal in 2017 and won his first Grand Slam at Roland-Garros earlier this year, so the credentials are real rather than a default. Alex de Minaur, Taylor Fritz and Andrey Rublev are also entered, and the field still carries 71 of the ATP Tour's top 72 players.
The withdrawals are the second year running that this event has lost the top of the men's game, and they have reopened an argument about the calendar. The Masters 1000 events in Canada and Cincinnati now run twelve days each, back to back, in the weeks before a Grand Slam.
Toronto is in better shape. The women's draw has 72 of the top 75 in the WTA rankings, and two wild cards carry their own weight: Bianca Andreescu, who won this tournament in 2019, and Venus Williams.
So the honest answer is that Montreal is wide open and Toronto is not.
