Manchester United have confirmed Cristian Orozco, an 18-year-old midfielder from Fortaleza CEIF, as their sixth signing of the 2026 summer window. Altay Bayindir is going to Celta Vigo on loan, and David Ornstein does not expect Lewis Hall at Old Trafford.
Manchester United have completed the signing of Cristian Orozco. The club's statement, carried by Sports Mole on 6 August and by Goal on 7 August, describes an 18-year-old midfielder joining from Fortaleza CEIF of the Colombian Categoria Primera A.
The interesting part is the calendar. Both outlets report that the deal was agreed in principle late last year, roughly nine months before the announcement. Nothing went wrong in the negotiation. FIFA's Article 19 restricts international transfers of players under 18, the exemptions are narrow, and a 17-year-old moving from Colombia to England does not meet any of them. So a completed agreement sat still until he had a birthday.
Manchester United once had a route around this. While the United Kingdom was inside the European Union the exemption applied, and in the summer of 2020 the club recruited Alejandro Garnacho, Willy Kambwala, Marc Jurado, Alvaro Fernandez and Radek Vitek from Europe in a single window. The withdrawal completed that year and the route closed behind them. Colombia was never covered by the exemption at all.
No fee has been disclosed. One aggregator has printed 850,000 pounds; neither the club nor the two outlets carrying its statement give a number, so this desk is not printing one.
Orozco made five first-team appearances for Fortaleza last season. Goal reports that he captained Colombia at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup. Sports Mole expects him to feature for the Under-21s rather than the senior squad, and quotes him, via ESPN Colombia, saying his strengths are his physicality and his technique.
Two other things moved. Altay Bayindir is joining Celta Vigo on a season-long loan, with the Spanish club paying his salary in full and holding an option to buy in the region of 4m euros, subject to appearance clauses. Goal and ESPN both report the structure, and Fabrizio Romano has said the medical was authorised. Manchester United paid Fenerbahce 4.3m pounds for him in 2023, per BBC Sport, so the option would return roughly what he cost.
And on Lewis Hall, David Ornstein has said he does not expect the move to Manchester United to happen, per TeamTalk and Football365. That is a harder line than the position reported earlier in the week and it points the same way as Newcastle United's own public stance. Ornstein names midfield and left-back as the club's two priority areas, which leaves the second one open.
