Fabrizio Romano reported the offer on Thursday: an initial loan with a fee around 5 million euros and a buy option. Manchester United would step up their striker search if he goes, with the deadline on Tuesday.
Fiorentina have made a formal bid for Joshua Zirkzee. Fabrizio Romano reported the offer on Thursday 27 August: an initial loan carrying a fee around 5 million euros with a buy option, and talks with the player's camp described as advanced. Yahoo Sports carried the same story with the structure as a loan to the end of the season, an agreement not yet close, and optimism on both sides that it lands before the window closes on Tuesday 1 September.
The context on Fiorentina's end is Moise Kean. Como are pushing to sign him, and Zirkzee is the replacement Fiorentina want leading their line if he goes. So one striker deal in Italy is waiting on another, which is partly why nothing is signed yet.
Manchester United paid Bologna 36.5 million pounds for Zirkzee in July 2024 on a five-year contract with an option for a sixth. A 5 million euro loan fee against that outlay reads thin on its own, which is what the buy option is for: the loan is the exit, the option sets the price of it.
Romano also reports that Manchester United will step up their search for a striker if Zirkzee leaves. The one name attached so far sits at rumour tier: TeamTalk links Igor Matanovic of SC Freiburg, who scored 11 Bundesliga goals last season. No named reporter has put a bid on record for anyone.
Sunday is the home opener against Ipswich Town at Old Trafford, where Carlos Baleba could make his debut after Tuesday's 65 million pound move from Brighton and Hove Albion was completed. The window shuts two days after that.
