Merino strikes late again. Spain survive Belgium at SoFi.

A makeshift Belgium goalkeeper could not hold out to the final whistle.

Spain didn't get there until the eighty eighth minute. Two one over Belgium at SoFi Stadium, in a quarter final that swung twice. Fabian Ruiz put them ahead just past the half hour, Belgium answered almost straight away through Charles De Ketelaere, and it was 1-1 at the break. Belgium's night got worse from there: Thibaut Courtois went off injured, Manchester United's Senne Lammens came on for him, and captain Youri Tielemans had already been ruled out with a warm-up injury. Mikel Merino made it count late, scoring off a rebound Lammens couldn't hold. Spain go through to face France, already through on the other side, in Tuesday's semi final.
