He took the long way round. Antonelli started 19th after taking new power unit components, according to Formula1.com, which called P19 the second-lowest starting position a Grand Prix has ever been won from. The race was red-flagged early after a crash for Charles Leclerc, and Formula1.com said Antonelli had already climbed to 12th by the time it stopped.
The finish came down to the two Mercedes cars. Formula1.com reported that Antonelli pitted under a mid-race Virtual Safety Car and used the fresher tyres to catch and pass his team-mate George Russell late on. Sky Sports listed Russell second and Max Verstappen third.
It was Antonelli's seventh win of the season, Formula1.com said, and it leaves him 66 points clear of Russell in the drivers' standings. The next round is the Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid, per Formula1.com.
