Elvira stood on the 18th tee level with Spaun, who was already in the clubhouse. The DP World Tour's report has him holing a 9-foot eagle putt at the 17th to get there. At the par-5 last he found sand with his second, flew the green with his third and found sand again. He finished on 15 under with Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott and Aaron Rai.
Spaun was not picked for the United States Presidents Cup team. Brandt Snedeker's six selections were announced on 1 September and Spaun, 10th on the points list, was not among them. "I played with a huge chip on my shoulder," he said afterwards, in quotes carried by GOLF.com and CBS Sports. "I definitely had something to prove this week."
He is the third American to win the title, after Arnold Palmer and Billy Horschel. The DP World Tour counts it as his second win on the circuit, after the 2025 US Open.
