Nick Chubb retired on 21 August, announcing it on Instagram. He was 30, and he finished with 7,349 rushing yards and 54 rushing touchdowns across eight NFL seasons and 100 games. Counting receiving, he had 1,109 receiving yards and 59 total touchdowns. He made four Pro Bowls.
The Cleveland Browns took him 35th overall in the second round of the 2018 draft. He rushed for four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and peaked at 1,525 yards in 2022.
Then the knee. Chubb suffered a serious knee injury two games into the 2023 season, at Pittsburgh on a Monday night, and missed the remaining fifteen games of that season and the first six of the next. He came back midway through 2024 for 332 rushing yards and three scores. In 2025 he played fifteen games for the Houston Texans for 506 yards and three touchdowns, starting the season as the lead back before the rookie fourth-round pick Woody Marks moved ahead of him.
He said he had known for some time. He also said he had no regrets, while allowing that there were things he wished had gone differently.
